The result of the debate was no action required. Proposal is already allowed and in use under current guidelines. Green Tentacle (Talk) 13:13, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

I was gonna hold this back till next year, but I decided to tag along with Eyrezer’s CT. Okay, so a few months back, I started a CT about what types of articles should require era tags (See Forum:CT:Era tags). In it, I proposed a change from the current clause in the layout guide that reads that “[era tags are] usually included in non-timeless articles such as characters, organizations, vehicles, weapons.” I wasn’t happy with the vagueness of the words “non-timeless” and “usually”, so I suggested that they be used for all articles. The community as a whole voted against the idea, mainly because we were unhappy with including planets and species into the requirements. So I thought it over a bit, and decided to revise it. Now instead, I suggest including all individuals and their creations. This would encompass everything that we already use era tags for (organisations, characters, vehicles etc.) plus some others, the main one I can think of being structures. Surely you agree that artificially made structures are not timeless.

Below are the two options, one for changing the guide (change) and one for keeping it as it is (keep). If anything else is required, please advise. ; ) SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 09:32, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

  2. Since we should use them for everything, I can't see why we shouldn't use them for structures and whatnot. Havac 07:03, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the read, <insert name here>. ; ) SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 09:32, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

  • The Tommy impersonation aside, is there anything else you guys can think of that would be affected by this change apart from structures? Any questions/comments can just go here or on my talk. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 09:32, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Um, I think we already have them on a lot of structures. I know I use them on structures because the current wording doesn't disallow it. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 14:33, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
    • Indeed. I don't see why we need to vote when the "such as" bit already seems to cover it. Green Tentacle (Talk) 16:23, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
      • This CT is more for giving consistency and a more concrete wording in the LG than anything else. Looking at the first 10 articles in Category:Structures, 5 have tags while 5 don't. Surely we can do better. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 01:57, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

With all due respect to the creator of this thread and what I know are his good intentions, this CT is entirely pointless. We already use era tags on structures, cities, etc. They do indeed fall under the category of "non-timeless" items. Just because an article doesn't have era tags on it, doesn't mean that's Wookieepedia's policy, it just means someone neglected to add them. Feel free to do so yourself. We don't need a CT thread for something already in practice, and unless someone can provide a good enough reason for this thread to continue, I will be closing it shortly. • It's just that I found the wording confusing and vague, and I thought other users, particularly new ones, might feel the same. More established users like you probably have a better understanding of policy, as I am finding. Maybe it's just me who doesn't get it very well (it happens a lot). I guess you can close it—everything I asked has been clarified to me. It's just others I'm concerned about. Thanks. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 02:40, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
  • I'll go and get started on the tags. (Yay I won 2 votes to 0) ; ). Thanks again. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 02:44, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
    • Actually, it is not decided until two weeks after the forum is opened. Graestan(Talk) 03:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
      • I meant that as a joke. I am aware that two votes is not enough to secure a win. SoresuMakashi(Everything I tell you is a lie) 03:20, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

This does not encompass the question of "Did it exist during X Era?" Some articles that are said to have survived from the Old Era to the Legacy Era have all of the era tags, such as T3-series utility droid, or at least used to, while it is not certain if they were not fabrications or wheter they time traveled there, or whether it was an insane idea by Leland Chee that some soda Luke drank was from some era that has not been identified yet. This should be standardized. I think it was before but I can't seem to find it at the moment. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 03:46, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
