As I'm sure everyone is slowly becoming aware, the official Star Wars site went through a complete overhaul as of September 13, 2011. With the revamp, most of our links to StarWars.com (in fact, all of them, save for www.starwars.com itself) are now defunct and inaccessible. The majority of the original articles published prior to the revamp have been removed (save for articles like the TCW Episode Guides and various News articles), replaced in the new layout or either gone altogether. While this move is both interesting and disappointing, it's still our job to reflect the changes properly.
One of the major changes has been the complete removal of the original Databank, which has been succeeded by the new Encyclopedia. Modifications were recently made to the {{DB}} and {{Hyperspace}} citation templates to reflect the inaccessibility of all Databank and Hyperspace links. {{SWE}} has been created for citing the new Encyclopedia. Currently, {{SW}} is being transitioned to {{SWArchive}} so that the old and new links can be separated with separate templates—SWArchive for the pre-revamp links, and SW now for the new ones. The technical/formatting implementation of the templates will be handled outside of the Consensus Track.
There are several parts to this CT, all listed below, so please read carefully. Even though the overhaul may not have been the best choice (I'm rather wary of the links to Wookieepedia on every single Encyclopedia entry), it's our duty to implement it. Please do not add additional options to any of the separate votes, or any additional votes, without first putting them up for discussion. Thank you. CC7567 (talk) 22:55, September 14, 2011 (UTC)

Updating the canon policy
This vote is for updating the canon policy to consider the Encyclopedia a valid, canon resource. Rather trivial, since the Encyclopedia is published on the official site, but doing so will avoid any potential confusion—and WP:CANON was meant to be updated to reflect new additions anyway.
Proposal: update the second bullet point ("All Databank entries…") to read:
- All Databank entries, Encyclopedia entries, and source material on StarWars.com, as well as any other articles on the official site that provide unique canonical information

Sources Addendum I to the Layout Guide
This vote is for modifying the Layout Guide for the implementation of {{SWE}}. The second bullet point under the LG's Sources section will be changed to implement {{SWE}}. Here's what the rule currently states:
- For Databank entries, use the {{DB}} template. Links to the Databank should be under the name of the article being linked to, not the article's name here. For example, the proper citation for the OG-9 homing spider droid is: {{DB|droid|homingspiderdroid|homing spider droid|archivedate=20110807050110}}
Here's what it will be modified to. Some grammar adjustments were made for clarity:
- For Databank and Encyclopedia entries, use the {{DB}} or {{SWE}} template. Links to the Databank and Encyclopedia should be under the name of the official article being linked to, not the article's corresponding name here. For example, the proper citation for the OG-9 homing spider droid is: {{DB|droid|homingspiderdroid|homing spider droid|archivedate=20110807050110}}

Do not amend Layout Guide with Addendum I
Discussion
Sources Addendum II to the Layout Guide
This vote deals with the placement of Encyclopedia entries within the Sources section. I was surprised to find that it has not been set in stone in official policy that Databank entries should be listed at the end of Sources sections, so this vote will also solidify that clause, as it is official in all but policy. The following bullet point will be added in the Layout Guide's Sources section, under the rule that reads, "Should be sorted by date of publication," so that the final page will look like this:
- Should be sorted by date of publication
- Since Databank and Encyclopedia entries are subject to modification at any time, they should be listed alphabetically, not by publication date, at the end of the Sources section. Databank entries should precede Encyclopedia entries, and they are to be organized by official entry name (without titles or ranks for characters, and by surname if applicable), e.g.:
501st Legion in the Databank (original site is defunct)
clone troopers in the Databank (original site is defunct)
Rex, Clone Captain in the Databank (original site is defunct)
Skywalker, Anakin in the Databank (original site is defunct)
Vader, Darth in the Databank (original site is defunct)
clone troopers in the Encyclopedia (original site is defunct)
Clone Captain Rex in the Encyclopedia (original site is defunct)

- Since Databank and Encyclopedia entries are subject to modification at any time, they should be listed alphabetically, not by publication date, at the end of the Sources section. Do not amend Layout Guide with Addendum II
Oppose as written. It looks dumb to have "Clone Captain Rex" sorted in the "C"s for "Clone" and then have "Anakin Skywalker" sorted under "S" for his surname. Either sort all characters by name without titles or ranks (e.g. put Rex under "R"), or sort all by entry name without going by surnames (e.g. put Anakin under "A"), but don't mix the two. I'd prefer the latter for simplicity but will support either. Master Jonathan — Jedi Council Chambers Wednesday, September 14, 2011, 23:20 UTC- See what you think. CC7567 (talk) 23:28, September 14, 2011 (UTC)

- See what you think. CC7567 (talk) 23:28, September 14, 2011 (UTC)
- I've always disliked the fact that we do as above. My vote perhaps will make no difference given the vast support for the proposal so far, but I don't see the harm in listing DB and Enc entries at their point of publication and just leaving them there. I realize that updates pose a problem, but for the most part, I'd rather know when a particular canon source came out in relation to others, and putting all the DB/Enc stuff at the end prevents this. Also, Eyrezer is right that even by the proposal above, perhaps DB entries should now be listed as September 2011. ~Savage
13:32, September 15, 2011 (UTC) - Per Eye and Bob. The DB and Enc are pretty much mutually exclusive, so there's no reason to automatically lump them together and continue the old policy for the DB entries if the rationale behind that decision is no longer valid for them. I say we list the DB as September 2011 and the Enc at the bottom. NaruHina Talk

Discussion
- I thought I would point out that the Databank entries are no longer liable to be changed at any time. They no longer exist. Therefore an alternative option could be to order them as September 2011. --Eyrezer 09:49, September 15, 2011 (UTC)
Sources Addendum III to the Layout Guide
This vote is for making the implementation of {{SWArchive}} and {{SW}} official policy. The following rule will be added to the end of the Layout Guide's Sources section. ({{SW}} will be created once {{SWArchive}} is changed site-wide.)
- {{SWArchive}} should be used for all StarWars.com articles published prior to the September 2011 revamp. For pages either transferred to the official site's new layout or published after the revamp, {{SW}} should be used.
Amend Layout Guide with Sources Addendum III
- I'm aware that the Layout Guide doesn't list every single citation template out there for official use, but in this case, the distinction needs to be made between {{SW}} and {{SWArchive}}. Being more specific here shouldn't hurt. CC7567 (talk) 22:55, September 14, 2011 (UTC)

External links addendum to the Layout Guide
Basically, update the last bullet point of the External links section on the Layout Guide to read:
- NO Databank or Encyclopedia entries here—the Databank and Encyclopedia are official sources and should be treated that way
Again, it's rather trivial, but it will leave no room for misinterpretation.
