Looking at the warning that pops up for anon editors, there is an opportunity to make this friendlier and more welcoming. It is hard to get data, but it will hopefully encourage and convert anon editors to continue to edit, and potentially even sign up and become more regular editors.

The opening word "warning" sets a negative tone and the messaging isn't clear that we can't communicate with those users. This can be frustrating for all when edits need to be reverted, removed or cleaned up and the anon user struggles to understand the issues.

This proposal is off the back of the Senate Hall thread on the topic and proposes to update MediaWiki:Anoneditwarning.

Current: Warning: You are not logged in. Your IP address will be publicly visible if you make any edits. If you [$1 log in] or [$2 create an account], your edits will be attributed to your username, along with other benefits.

Option 1: Welcome! You haven't logged in, which means we won't be able to communicate with you and your IP address will be publicly available if you make any edits. If you [$1 log in] or [$2 create an account], your edits will be attributed to your username and we'll be able to work with you!

Option 2: Welcome! You haven't logged in, which means we won't be able to communicate with you and your IP address will be publicly available if you make any edits. If you [$1 log in] or [$2 create a free account], your edits will be attributed to your username and we'll be able to work with you, along with other benefits!
