Hello,

Following this Senate Hall thread, in which it was discussed whether alternate names should be listed in the infobox of character articles, it's time to bring this to the CT. Currently, no policy regulates the matter, and the objective of this CT is to add one of the following options to the "Infobox" section of the Layout Guide.

The CT is divided into two votes:

  • Vote 1 will decide whether additional names will be permitted in the infobox.
  • Vote 2 will decide, in case the community votes "Support" in Vote 1, on the specific types of alternate names that will be permitted in the infobox.

If Vote 1 results in "Oppose," the following sentence will be added to the Layout Guide:

  • The name field of the infobox is reserved to the article's title, in accordance with the Naming policy and pursuant to this section's clause on article titles with parenthetical descriptors, and no additional alternate name may be listed in this field.

If all of the votes in Vote 2 result in "Support," the following passage will be added to the Layout Guide:

  • The name field of the infobox is reserved to the article's title, in accordance with the Naming policy and pursuant to this section's clause on article titles with parenthetical descriptors, and no additional alternate name may be listed in the said field with the following exceptions: the nicknames of clone troopers (e.g. "Fives" for CT-5555) or their numerical designation if their articles are titled by their names (e.g. "CT-7567" for Rex); Chiss core names (e.g. "Thrawn" for Mitth'raw'nuruodo); Darth titles of Sith individuals (e.g. "Darth Vader" for Anakin Skywalker) or birth names for Sith individuals (e.g. "Jacen Solo" for Darth Caedus); and droid names whose nicknames are not a mere phonetic pronunciation of their name (e.g. "Red" for R5-D4). These articles may only list one such alternate name.

If some, but not all, of the votes in Vote 2 result in "Support," the passage quoted directly above will be added to the Layout Guide, with the list of acceptable exceptions being limited to the options for which the corresponding votes resulted in "Support."   • Although I support this measure, it might be a good idea to specify that this does not apply to clones who fall under the naming policy exception for having their articles be titled after their names even if their numbers are known.       • Just to be crystal clear, what I meant was that I don't think clone articles which qualify for being titled by their names need their designation numbers in the infobox. SilverSunbird (talk) 01:35, 13 March 2022 (UTC)

      • The way I see it, the best example here would've been a droid who had a name that had nothing to do with the letters and digits of their alphanumerical designation. Chopper, Red, and MdZ-BLK "Blockhead" were the next best option. Imperators II(Talk) 19:09, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
