"Assuming my translation is accurate, this ancient text from the planet Forntay relates how the primitive inhabitants rose up and defeated superior oppressors. Sadly, the natives are now extinct."
―Emiel Skoff[3]

Forntay was a planet[3] located in the Forntay system,[1] in the Southern Core portion of[2] the Core Worlds.[1] According to a text from Forntay that was ancient by the time of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance and that was translated by the Human educator Emiel Skoff—who was researching historical insights that would aid the outnumbered Alliance prevail over the Empire—the planet was at one point home to a group of native inhabitants. Skoff characterized the group as primitive, and supposedly it had been subjugated by a faction utilizing superior forces. According to the ancient text, Forntay's native inhabitants ultimately carried out a successful insurrection against their oppressors; however, the group eventually also went extinct. During the Galactic Civil War, Skoff relayed the fate of Forntay's inhabitants as translated from the text.[3]

Behind the scenes

Forntay was first mentioned in Mark Rein-Hagen and Stewart Wieck's 1990 West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Forntay system—albeit misspelled as the "Fortnay" system—and therefore the planet itself, in grid square L-12.[2]
