"This isn't like before, Torra. The First Order's hunting us. You saw how fast they tracked our beacon."

SB082 signal beacons were a type of signal beacon manufactured by the company Fabritech. The captain of the Colossus refueling station, Imanuel Doza, used an SB082 signal beacon in an attempt to rendezvous with his wife, Venisa Doza, in 34 ABY. The First Order tracked the beacon and attacked the Colossus, forcing the space station to flee before the Doza family could reunite.

Description

"He brought us to the Outer Rim to lay low, and then he gave away our location by activating that beacon!"

Manufactured by the company Fabritech, SB082 signal beacons were a type of signal beacon used to mark a location in realspace and then transmit its coordinates. They were colored a light gray, usually the size of a starfighter,[1] and were shaped like a cylinder thickening in the middle. Multiple antennas rested on either end, and a spinning ring intersected in the middle. On the top and bottom of the ring were four antennas with red lights.[2]

History

"We found their signal beacon, Torch… but that's definitely not the Colossus."

In 34 ABY,[3] Imanuel Doza, captain of the Colossus refueling station, used an SB082 signal beacon while trying to rendezvous with his wife, Resistance pilot Venisa Doza.[1] They were trying to rendezvous in the Outer Rim for the sixteenth birthday of their daughter, Torra Doza, an annual tradition of theirs[2] since 28 ABY.[4] The First Order tracked the beacon quickly, arrived before Venisa, and engaged in combat with the Colossus's defense, the Ace Squadron. The station was forced to jump to hyperspace, preventing the family from meeting. Immediately after, Venisa arrived in her X-wing next to the signal beacon. She briefly fought with the First Order's TIE/fo space superiority fighters before trying to make her escape, but[2] the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Thunderer[1] caught the X-wing in a tractor beam before she could escape.[2]

Later, the Aces—unaware of the family's tradition—recuperated in the Aces' Lounge aboard the Colossus. Bo Keevil,[2] pilot for the Yellow Ace,[1] complained that Imanuel had given away the Colossus's location with the signal beacon, which fellow Ace pilot Kazuda Xiono agreed was a poor plan. A frustrated Torra left the lounge and later spoke to her father in his office. There, Imanuel explained to Torra the unsafe conditions the family was in, citing how quickly the First Order tracked the beacon.[2]

A SB082 signal beacon first appeared in "Rendezvous Point,"[2] the eighth episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which aired on November 24, 2019.[5] The beacon was identified as an "SB082 signal beacon" in the 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy.[1] Concept designer[2] Jim Moore created concept art for the SB082 signal beacon titled "buoySpaceB" on June 20, 2018. The model for the beacon was sourced from "buoySpace,"[6] the model name for space buoys, which was designed by Colas Gauthier[7]—another concept designer[2]—on June 9, 2017.[7]
