A Jedi Council member: "Padawans of any age will be eligible to undergo the trials and advance to the rank of Knight."
Amadeo Azzazzo: "Any age?"
Eoin Gorcan: "Don't worry, Amadeo. Nobody's putting us through the trials any time soon."
Ady Sun'Zee: "I dunno. Another few Nihil attacks and they won't have a choice."
―Padawans reacting to the Guardian Protocols[3]

Eoin Gorcan was a human Jedi Padawan of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. While in the Galactic Senate Chamber on the planet Coruscant in 229 BBY, he witnessed the Jedi High Council implement the Guardian Protocols as the fight against the Nihil marauders escalated. While in the planet Eriadu's Republic outpost in 228 BBY, he attended Admiral Pevel Kronara's planning meeting for the joint Republic Defense Coalition and Jedi Order mission to rescue prisoners from the Nihil prison ship Korvix Vorn. That year, as part of the Eriaduan resistance, Gorcan helped his allies repel the Nihil invading Eriadu, celebrating once they were defeated.

Biography

"You've all been rigorously vetted, so listen up and speak freely."
―Pevel Kronara, to Eoin Gorcan and the others in a meeting[1]

The human Eoin Gorcan[1] was a Jedi Padawan of the Jedi Order who lived during the High Republic Era.[3] In 229 BBY,[5] the Order assembled in the Galactic Senate Chamber on[3] the planet[6] Coruscant where the Jedi High Council implemented the Guardian Protocols in response to the escalation of the ongoing fight against the Nihil marauders. When one of the Council members explained that Padawans of any age would become eligible to undergo the Jedi Trials to become a Jedi Knight, Padawan Amadeo Azzazzo was worried. Gorcan assured[3] him[6] that they would not undergo the trials soon, though another Padawan—Ady Sun'Zee—guessed that if the Nihil attacks continued, the Order would need to hasten their promotions.[3]

In 228 BBY,[7] Gorcan was present in the Republic outpost on[1] the planet[8] Eriadu.[1] That year,[7] after being vetted to attend,[1] he[2] attended a meeting hosted for members of the Republic Defense Coalition and the Jedi Order that was led by the Republic Admiral Pevel Kronara to plan a mission to rescue prisoners from the Nihil prison ship Korvix Vorn. The Padawan stood next to Jedi Master Tani Briwill as Kronara displayed a hologram of the vessel and explained its armamentslaser cannons and blister bombs, engaging in a discussion with several Jedi about how to best conduct the mission. Shortly after the meeting's end, the Republic and Jedi carried out the rescue[1] and successfully freed the Korvix Vorn's prisoners.[9]

Later in 228 BBY,[10] Gorcan joined his Jedi and Eriaduan allies as part of the Eriaduan resistance to repel the Nihil invading Eriadu. The Eriaduan resistance defeated the Nihil on the world, with Gorcan celebrating with his allies afterward,[4] taking time to reminisce on the allies who had lost their lives during the Nihil conflict.[11] The Nihil collectively surrendered to the Republic not long afterward.[12]

During the Nihil conflict, Gorcan was loyal to the Jedi Order and the Republic during their joint fight against the marauders and was among several individuals rigorously vetted to attend the briefing meeting for the Korvix Vorn mission.[1] Upon the implementation of the Guardian Protocols, he was willing to reassure his colleague Azzazzo when the Council announced Padawans of any age could be eligible to complete the Jedi Trials. Gorcan had red hair and light skin.[3]

Powers and abilities

As a Jedi Padawan, Gorcan was a Force-sensitive individual trained to wield the Force.[1]

Equipment

During the announcement of the Guardian Protocols' implementation, Gorcan donned white-and-gold Jedi attire that included a white cloak and a brown belt.[3] On Eriadu, the Padawan donned brown Jedi robes featuring a lighter undertunic, cream-colored pants, a utility belt, a brown cloak, and brown boots. Under his utility belt, Gorcan wore a gold-colored sash[1] that was the same color as his lightsaber.[13] While fighting during the invasion of Eriadu, Gorcan donned tan-colored Jedi robes with yellow tabbards, along with a brown utility belt and brown boots.[4]

The issue was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Elisa Romboli, and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on March 13, 2024, for The High Republic's Phase III.[17] Older later confirmed on Twitter that Gorcan was indeed the redhaired Jedi Padawan first seen in Shadows of Starlight 1.[18]
