"In the Recopi system, Governor Drelishav coordinated with the ISB and decided that the easiest way to deal with this trend was an implied threat of overt brutality toward any who appeared in the least bit sympathetic to the Jedi, no matter their age."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1]

Drelishav was the Imperial governor of the Recopi system. They worked with the Imperial Security Bureau to imply the threat of brutality to anyone showing sympathy to the Jedi Order, resulting in the destruction of many toy lightsabers and leading many children to forget about the Jedi.

Biography

"In response, toy lightsabers, fake Jedi robes, and anything that could be construed as such were secretly destroyed in millions of homes. Stripped of the opportunity to play as Jedi and rapidly educated in schools as to the real dangers that the Order had posed, children began to forget about the Jedi altogether."

Many Jedi-related toys were destroyed because of Drelishav.

Drelishav was an individual who served as governor of the Recopi system for the Galactic Empire. As part of the Empire's effort to remove any remaining positive perceptions about the Jedi following the Order's destruction[1] in 19 BBY,[2] the governor worked with the Imperial Security Bureau to create an implied threat of overt brutality toward Imperial citizens of any age that showed sympathy toward the Jedi. The governor saw this as the easiest way to deal with the fact that some younger children still liked to play with fake lightsabers—the weapon of the Jedi—in the street.[1]

Drelishav's actions resulted in toy lightsabers and fake Jedi apparel, as well as anything that could be construed as such, being secretly destroyed in many homes, leaving the children to forget the Jedi altogether as they were stripped of the chance to imitate them and quickly educated about the dangers they posed while at school.[1] In 35 ABY,[3] the historian Beaumont Kin mentioned Drelishav in[1] his[4] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire.[1]

Behind the scenes

Drelishav was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1]
