"Wanna drink?"
"I'm looking for someone."
"Came to the right place."
"A lowlife death stick dealer. Just came in here."
"A lot of people come through here, friend"
―Jango Fett and Bufon Taire[4]

Bufon Taire was a Human male who was the chief bartender for the Outlander Club located in the Uscru Entertainment District of the planet Coruscant. Taire had a well-stocked bar, and he worked alongside two assistant bartenders, one of which was Ganwick Trag. In 32 BBY, the bounty hunter Jango Fett approached Taire while in the club for the whereabouts of death stick dealer Jervis Gloom. After getting evasive answers from the bartender, Fett threatened Taire to call down a lift in the club, which he did.

In 22 BBY, Taire was at the club when Fett and the bounty hunter Zam Wesell sell met there. Shortly after in that year, Taire served a drink to Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in the club as he and his padawan searched for Wesell after her assassnation attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala. Taire noticed the bounty hunter approaching Kenobi from behind just before Kenobi used his lightsaber to dismember her arm.

Bufon Taire was a Human[1] male[2] who was the chief bartender, a top employee position, at the Outlander Club,[3] a nightclub and gambling hall located in the Uscru Entertainment District of the[5] planet[6] Coruscant. Taire and his assistant bartender, Ganwick Trag, kept the drinks going in the club as most of the Outlander's action and gossip was spread around them.[7] Aside from Trag, Taire had another assistant bartender who had been fired from some of the most respectful bars on Coruscant.[8] His well-stocked bar at the center of the club featured the best[9] color-coded ingredients like Aludium pu-36,[10] insecticide,[6] and his famous and popular "starshine special" additive. As an extra measure, Taire watered down his drinks as a precaution.[10] If Taire knew an individual, or if that individual was with the right people, they might have been treated to the "starshine special."[9]

In 32 BBY,[11] after the Battle of Naboo, Taire was working behind the bar of the club when the bounty hunter Jango Fett, seeking out Jervis Gloom, a death stick dealer and frequenter of the club. Fett entered and approached Taire at the bar and said he was looking for someone. After Taire was being evasive about Gloom, Fett pulled out one of his blaster pistols from his holster and threatened the bartender. Not wanting to get shot, Taire told Fett that Gloom took a lift up to the club's casino. Fett then ordered for Taire to call the lift down with the bartender obliging. The lift came down, but with several thugs pouring out. Fett killed them all and then went up to the casino and collected the bounty on Gloom.[4]

Serving a Jedi

In 22 BBY,[13] Taire was inside the Outlander Club when the Jango Fett and the bounty hunter Zam Wesell arranged to meet there.[14] During a night[12] shortly after in that same year,[15] Taire was again working behind the bar of the club when the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker entered, searching for Wesell after a failed assassination attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala. Taire was interacting with the[12] slythmonger[16] Elan Sel'Sabagno[17] just before Kenobi went up to the bar[12] and signaled him. The bartender served him a small glass with a luminescent blue liquid. Kenobi thanked him and Taire then served[12] the bounty hunter Kalyn Farnmir[18] and left the part of the bar he was at.[12]

After Sel'Sabagno left Kenobi after attempting to sell death sticks to him, the Jedi tossed back the drink and Taire refilled it.[19] A short while later,[12] Taire noticed Wesell approaching Kenobi from behind with a blaster[20] before Kenobi turned around and dismembered her arm using his lightsaber. Skywalker told the clubgoers to go back to their drinks and the Jedi left with the bounty hunter.[12] As the pair interrogated Wesell outside, the bartender was no longer at the club's bar but his previously fired assistant bartender was.[8]

Personality and traits

The no-nonsense[9] and ever-watchful[20] Taire had scarred dark skin and brown hair. He had differently colored eyes, with his right being white, and his left being brown.[2] Unwilling to suffer harm, Taire[5] eagerly[21] gave into Jango Fett's demands to call the Outlander Club's lift down.[4]

Equipment

While at the Outlander Club[14] in 32 BBY,[11] and in the two occasions[14][12] in 22 BBY,[13][15] the bartender wore a dark blue suit with light gray sleeves and dark blue pants. The suit had a dark metal collar with glowing lapels.[7]

Behind the scenes

"Close examination reveals that he sports facial scarring and mismatched eyes, implying that Taire would be able to crack a few skulls should a fistfight ever break out on the dancefloor"
―Daniel Wallace[3]

Bufon Taire made one his first appearances in the novelization of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

Bufon Taire was created for the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[12] which released on May 16, 2002.[22] Portrayed by an uncredited extra, the Outlander Club scenes including Taire were shot at Fox Studios, Sydney on July 17, 2000.[23] Prior to the film's release, Taire first was pictured[24] on March 10, 2002[25] with the release of the trailer for Episode II.[24] The character then appeared in both the films storybook, written by Jane Mason and illustrated by Sarah Hines Stephens; its novelization written by R. A. Salvatore;[19] and the young readers book Jango Fett: Bounty Hunter, written by Eric Arnold and illustrated by Valerie Reckert.[14] All simultaneously released on April 23, 2002.[26][27][28] The novelization incorrectly describes the drink he serves Obi-Wan Kenobi as amber-colored,[19] despite it appearing luminescent blue in the movie.[12]

Taire was first given a name on October 30, 2002,[29] with the fourty-fourth issue of The Official Star Wars Fact File,[9] written by Iain Lowson.[30] The name Bufon Taire is a homonym of "bouffant hair."[3] In the video game Star Wars: Bounty Hunter,[14] released on November 22, 2002,[22] Taire was voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. In the game[4] and in its official guide written by David Hodgsen[21] and released on November 26, 2002,[31] Taire is identified simply as "Bartender."[4][21]

In "Who's Who in the Outlander Club: It's Ladies' Night," an article published in the seventy-fifth issue of Star Wars Insider[3] on April 6, 2004,[32] author Daniel Wallace says that Taire's facial scarring implies that Taire could "crack a few skulls should a fistfight ever break out on the dancefloor."[3] The forty-fourth issue of the Fact File describes Taire as Human,[9] while 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, written by Stephen J. Sansweet and Pablo Hidalgo, describes him as humanoid.[2] The twentieth issue of the revised run of the Fact Files, released in 2014 and featuring text reprinted from the original Fact File run, describes Taire as Human.[1] This article assumes the revised Fact File to be correct as it is the more recent source.
