"Fan Droids" is the seventh episode of the animated shorts series Star Wars Blips. It was first released September 1. 2017 during the Force Friday on the official Star Wars app.[1] Two days later it was released on YouTube.[2]

Plot summary

The episode opens with BB-8 being manhandled by two B2-series super battle droids. However, R2-D2 uses one of his appendages to pierce the two battle droids' chassis, causing oil to leak out. He then ignites the oil, setting the two droids aflame. Later, R2-D2 sprays several stormtroopers with a smoke canister. The camera then turns to the exploding Death Star before zooming in on R2-D2 riding in Luke Skywalker's X-wing starfighter.

In the present, BB-8 uses a holoprojector to recount R2-D2's life story to several other droids including BB-8, the blue BB-series astromech droid 2BB-2, the GNK-series power droid 4B-EG-6, the R4 astromech droid M9-G8, and the tan-plated BB-series droid BB-4. As the droids squabble in Binary, R2-D2 passes by. The droids react with excitement, with 2BB-2 short-circuiting in the process.
