The Experimental V-wing was an experimental model of the Alpha-3 Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter,[1] which served the Republic Starfighter Corps during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[2] This model was equipped with a compact hyperdrive of limited capacity. A number of these fighters were rumored to belong to an elite crimson-clad pilot brigade that reported directly to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.[1]

Following the end of the Clone Wars, three Experimental V-wings escorted the self-appointed Emperor Palpatine's personal Theta-class T-2c shuttle during his voyage from Coruscant to Mustafar and again on the return trip, culminating at the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center.[2][3]
