The Esperance was a starship used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War against the Galactic Empire. Following the Battle of Yavin[1] in 0 BBY,[2] rebel leader Mon Mothma,[1] who had spent the battle on board away from the action on board a shuttle,[3] was present on board the Esperance while the evacuation of the rebel headquarters on the moon Yavin 4 took place[1] in 0 ABY.[2]
The Esperance was due to depart for Yavin in order to aid with the evacuation, as rebel naval Admiral Gial Ackbar was deploying all ships to assist, but when Mothma learned from her aide Hendri Underholt that the vessel Nangilima was departing a day earlier, she and Underholt transferred to the vessel from the Esperance less then an hour before its departure. The communication discussing the transfer was preserved in the collection of documents known as The Rebel Files.[1]
