"Inform the commander that Lord Vader's shuttle has arrived."
"Sir."
―Lieutenant Endicott and Jad Bean — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[3]

Endicott was a human who served as a lieutenant in the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War against the Alliance to Restore the Republic. In 4 ABY, Endicott was stationed on the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station superweapon and oversaw the arrival of the Sith Lord Darth Vader's Lambda-class T-4a shuttle ST 321.

As Vader landed, the lieutenant gave the order for the station's commander, Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod, to be alerted to the new arrival. He was later present on the Death Star's Overbridge when it first fired upon the Alliance Fleet during the Battle of Endor and ultimately perished when the battle station was destroyed.

Biography

Vader's arrival

"Command station, this is ST-321, code clearance blue. We are starting our approach. Deactivate the security shield."
"The security deflector shield will be deactivated when we have confirmation of your code transmission. Stand by."

Endicott oversaw the arrival of Darth Vader on board the Death Star II.

The human Endicott served as a lieutenant[2] in the Imperial Officer Corps of the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War fought against the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[3] In 4 ABY,[4] he[2] was stationed on board the superweapon known as the Death Star II while it was under construction in orbit above the forest moon Endor.[3] The lieutenant was overseeing[5] one of the battle station's hangars from an overlooking[3] command room[5] when the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle "ST 321," carrying the Sith Lord Darth Vader, began its approach to the Death Star.[3]

The lieutenant watched over the shoulder of station monitor[3] Jad Bean[6] as he[5] confirmed the shuttle's code clearance and then deactivated a hangar's deflector shield so that the starship could enter. Endicott then monitored the shuttle entering the hangar before[3] briskly[5] turning his head to order Bean to inform Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod, commander of the Death Star, of Lord Vader's arrival. Jerjerrod then greeted Vader personally as the Sith disembarked his shuttle.[3]

Battle of Endor

"Fire!"

Endicott witnessed Jerjerrod give the order for the Death Star II to fire its first shot in the Battle of Endor.

The Death Star was later attacked by the Alliance Fleet, who believed that the station was vulnerable as it was not yet fully operational. This was untrue however, as the rebels had been purposefully deceived as part of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine's plan to lure them into a trap. During the battle, Endicott was present in the Death Star's Overbridge when Jerjerrod gave the order for the Death Star's fully functional superlaser to fire its first shot at the rebel fleet,[3] destroying the MC80 Star Cruiser Liberty.[7]

Despite being unprepared to face the superlaser, the rebels ultimately managed to turn the tide of the battle in their favor after a strike team on Endor managed to destroy the bunker generating the Death Star's shields.[3] Endicott was killed when the superweapon was destroyed.[2]

Personality and traits

Endicott had light skin, brown hair, and blue eyes.[3]

Skills and abilities

Endicott had slightly above average intelligence and diplomatic skills, average speed, and slightly below average strength and fighting ability. He was not Force-sensitive.[2]

Equipment

Endicott wore a black Imperial officer's uniform including a cap and a silver utility belt.[3]

Behind the scenes

"It was a fantastic experience, very nice, seriously professional. Quite quiet, the set. There wasn't a lot of sort of banter. They were very focused, because I think what they were doing, technically, was really quite hard. I think the lighting and that kind of thing was really acute. I'll say it was incredibly dark. So, you'll sort of be in the darkness with people with torches, you know, coming up and whispering to you. And then, suddenly, a couple of lights would go on, and it was a bit like being on the Death Star, you know, I guess."
―Glyn Baker[8]

Endicott appeared in several additional scenes on the Death Star II Overbridge that were deleted from Return of the Jedi.

In the current Star Wars canon, Endicott first appeared in the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[3] which released on May 25, 1983.[9] The character was portrayed uncredited[3] by Glyn Baker with all Endicott's scenes filmed on Stage 7 of Elstree Studios on April 1, 1982, the last day of main stage shooting for the film in the United Kingdom.[10] Baker did not know what his role would be until he arrived on set and found the shoot relatively quiet and often dark, requiring the use of torches.[8]

Aside from the two scenes including Endicott in the film, Baker also shot additional scenes on the Overbridge that were cut. In the first scene, Endicott is stood overlooking a group of controllers when Palpatine contacts Jerjerrod and orders[11] him[2] to destroy Endor if the shield bunker is destroyed. In the second scene, Endicott informs Jerjerrod of the destruction of the bunker on Endor, prompting the Moff to order the Death Star to destroy Endor itself. Endicott then relays these orders to those stationed in the room. The character speaks with a British accent in this scene,[11] differing from the American accent the character uses in scenes included in the film.[3]

Endicott was portrayed by Glyn Baker.

In the current canon, the character was first named on a card in the 2018 Topps Star Wars Galactic Files set of trading cards released by The Topps Company, Inc.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Endicott first appeared prior to the release of the film in its novelization by James Kahn,[12] which was released on May 12, 1983.[9] The character was then first identified as Endicott on a card in the 2000 Death Star II Limited expansion set of the Star Wars Customizable Card Game.[13]
