Elan Rast was a Force-sensitive Volkaran Jedi Master[2] of the Jedi Order who trained the Jedi Knight Tensu Run. At some point, they were killed by the Grand Inquisitor, one of several Inquisitors hunting Run, who sought to rebuild the Jedi Order.[4]
Biography
On the run
- "Your anxieties betray a deep desire, to meet the Empire's efforts with your own."
- ―Elan to Tensu Run
Elan Rast was a Volkaran who became a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order. He was one of the few Jedi who survived Order 66 and went into hiding, putting him on the run from the newly formed Empire and their Inquisitorius. While on the run from the Empire he would train his fellow Jedi, the human male, Tensu Run.[3]
Elan and Tensu Run at their campsite
Early in their relationship soon after Order 66, while on a forested world covered in snow, the two would make a camp site. At the camp, Elan warned Run that he was on a dangerous path "skewed by sentiments of the dark side". Elan worried that Run's need to fight the Empire would continue him further down that path, Run arguing that the Empire's slaughter of innocent people demanded that the Empire be opposed, with the remaining Jedi leading that cause. Elan responded by stating that the two are needed for a greater purpose and that Run could not throw himself at the Empire, Run agreeing, settling the disagreement.[3]
Final days on the Voyager Dawn
- "I doubt you are here paying homage to past opposition at the end of their days?"
- ―Elan to the Grand Inquisitor
At some point after that discussion, Elan and Run would meet with a group of Jedi on the Voyager Dawn. At that point, Elan's health had deteriorated, placing him into both a neck brace and a power chair. At some point after that same discussion as well, his apprentice, Tensu Run, had become a legend at the Conquest of Regis Kor, becoming a symbol of rebellion against the Empire and of the surviving Jedi.[4]
After finding refuge at Zayron, Run would travel to the Dawn in hopes of speaking to his master on his newfound fame. Run tells Elan that he did not wish to become a symbol, rather he only wished to save those in need. Run did not believe himself worthy of the symbol, however, Elan tells Run that he is deserving of it, citing the fact that Elan taught him as to the reason why he believes such. Run would leave the Voyager Dawn, returning to Zayron.[4]
The Grand Inquisitor confronts Elan.
While flying to the Dawn, Run was spotted by the cargo salvager, Pii-lor, who reported his location to the Grand Inquisitor. While Elan was receiving medical attention from a 2-1B surgical droid for his legs, commenting on his age, the Inquisitorius fired upon and boarded the Dawn. Now aboard the ship, the Grand Inquisitor spoke with Elan, asking for the location of Tensu Run. Elan refused to give the Inquisitor any knowledge on his location, leading to the Grand Inquisitor killing Elan as well as the remaining Jedi aboard the Dawn.
Legacy
Sensing his master's death, Tensu Run would vow to take the fight to the Inquisitors rather than allowing them to continue to hunt the Jedi down. Run would fight the Inquisitiorius[4] while also attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order[5], which would eventually be in vain, as he would fall to the Sith Lord Darth Vader.[6]
