The Eighth Brother's TIE fighter was a TIE/ad v1 starfighter used by the Eighth Brother, a Jedi hunter of the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius. It was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems sometime between 4 BBY and 3 BBY. The TIE was equipped with shield generators and an armament of two L-s9.1 laser cannons and a projectile launcher. With a P-s5.2 twin ion engine, the TIE fighter could reach speeds up to 1,600 kilometers per hour, or 994 miles per hour, in atmosphere and a maximum acceleration of 4,150 G.
In 3 BBY, the Eighth Brother piloted the starfighter to the planet Malachor in his search for the former Sith Maul, a task assigned to him by the Inquisitorius leader, Darth Vader. There, his TIE/ad v1 was tracked by the rebels Ezra Bridger, C1-10P, Kanan Jarrus, and Ahsoka Tano during their search for knowledge to defeat the Inquisitors. The Eighth Brother confronted the rebels but attempted to flee to his starfighter, arriving too late as the astromech droid C1-10P found his starship and turned it against him. The Inquisitor later perished on Malachor, leaving his starfighter to be claimed by Maul.
Description

The Eighth Brother's TIE fighter[5] was a TIE/ad v1 initially owned by the Eighth Brother, a Terrelian Jango Jumper that was an Inquisitor of the Inquisitorius—an organization of the Galactic Empire[2] responsible for hunting Jedi and other Force-sensitives.[6] However, after the Eighth Brother's death on[2] the planet[6] Malachor, the former Sith Maul took the[2] TIE fighter[1] and left the planet.[2]

The starfighter measured 3.6 meters long,[3] 6.6 meters wide, and 5.7 meters tall,[1] or 11 feet and 7 inches long,[3] 21 feet and 9 inches wide, and 18 feet and 8 inches tall.[1] Equipped with a P-s5.2 twin ion engine, the starship was able to achieve a maximum acceleration of 4,150 G, 105 megalight per hour, and a maximum speed in atmosphere of 1,600 kilometers per hour or 994 miles per hour. The ship was outfitted with a Class 4.5 hyperdrive and an N-s6.a Navcon navigation system.[1]
With a T-s8.a targeting computer, the TIE/ad v1 was armed with two L-s9.1 laser cannons and a projectile launcher. For defensive measures, the TIE had shielding implemented in its wings and an ejector seat for emergencies. With life support and room for one pilot, the starship could carry two days of rations. The starfighter cost 150,000 credits.[1]
History
Now arriving at Malachor
- "I don't see any ship."
"It's gotta be around here somewhere. Chopper, try to get a fix on its location." - ―Ezra Bridger and Kanan Jarrus
The TIE/ad v1 was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems[1] sometime between 4 BBY and 3 BBY.[4] In 3 BBY,[7] the Eighth Brother travelled to Malachor after tracking Maul to the planet's Sith temple, a task assigned to him by Darth Vader, leader of the Inquisitorius.[6] After the Eighth Brother's arrival on Malachor, Ezra Bridger, C1-10P, Kanan Jarrus, and Ahsoka Tano, members of the rebel cell Phoenix Cell, journeyed to the planet to investigate a way to defeat the Inquisitors. As they piloted their shuttle, the Phantom, through the planet's atmosphere, the astromech C1-10P picked up the signal of the Eighth Brother's TIE/ad v1, but was unable to determine the type of ship. Under Jarrus's command, the droid began tracking the starship.[2]
The Eighth Brother piloted the TIE/ad v1.
With the ship tracked, Jarrus maneuvered the Phantom to land on the planet's surface, where they had tracked the Eighth Brother's starfighter, which was actually beneath the surface. As they disembarked their shuttle, Bridger commented on the TIE's absence. Jarrus affirmed it had to be somewhere and instructed C1-10P, who remained on the shuttle, to try to locate the ship. As the Bridger, Jarrus, and Tano investigated a nearby pillar, the group ended up falling through the planet's surface, discovering the Sith temple beneath. As the group moved towards the temple, Jarrus inquired with C1-10P if he had found the ship, which the droid had. As they ventured further, Jarrus warned Bridger that the starship indicated another being's presence.[2]
C1-10P found the Eighth Brother's TIE/ad v1 on Malachor.
After the Eighth Brother ambushed the three rebels, he fled once he realized he was outnumbered in lightsaber combat, but separated Bridger from the other two. As Jarrus and Tano gave chase, C1-10P contacted Jarrus to inform him that he had located the Eighth Brother's TIE fighter. Jarrus inquired where and instructed the astromech to go to the ship, to stop the Inquisitor from leaving, while Jarrus and Tano followed his signal. C1-10P left the shuttle and travelled to the ship's location. The C1-series droid landed atop the TIE and raised his grasper arms in victory, shortly before dodging the Eighth Brother's lightsaber as the Inquisitor threw it, damaging the top of the TIE. As the Inquisitor caught his lightsaber and pressed forward, C1-10P commandeered the TIE, much to the Eighth Brother's frustration.[2]

C1-10P fired laser cannons at the Eighth Brother from the TIE/ad v1.
Before the Inquisitor could act against the droid, Jarrus and Tano arrived, catching his attention. The Eighth Brother prepared to duel the two newcomers, but C1-10P activated the TIE fighter's controls and used the laser cannons against the Inquisitor. While the Eighth Brother deflected the barrage of lasers, he was eventually hit in the side, knocking him to the ground and separating him from his weapon. Jarrus and Tano prevented the Terrelian Jango Jumper from reuniting with his lightsaber and bound his hands. They then interrogated the Inquisitor for information on the Inquisitors and the reason for his presence on Malachor in front of his TIE/ad v1.[2]
When the Sith temple activated, Jarrus and Tano abandoned the TIE fighter as they brought the Eighth Brother along to find Bridger. The Eighth Brother eventually escaped the rebels' captivity, with the help of fellow Inquisitors, the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister. He later dueled Jarrus atop the temple and fell to his death when trying to flee the battle. Maul, who survived a duel with Jarrus atop the temple, located the TIE/ad v1 and piloted it off the planet.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Eighth Brother's TIE Fighter first appeared in part one of the two-part episode "Twilight of the Apprentice,"[2] the finale of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels. The episode aired on March 30, 2016.[8] In an interview with IGN a day after the airing of "Twilight of the Apprentice," Dave Filoni, co-creator of Rebels, identified the starfighter as "Eighth Brother's TIE fighter." Filoni also revealed in a different version of the episode's script that the Eighth Brother would have survived his fall from the Sith temple, only to perish from the activation of the ancient weapon while retreating to his TIE. The co-creator also confirmed that Maul escaped in the Eighth Brother's TIE advanced v1.[5]
The Star Wars Rebel's Facebook account incorrectly claimed that Maul took Darth Vader's TIE advanced x1.
The episode's accompanying guide's gallery erroneously states that after the Phoenix Cell members fell beneath the planet's surface, C1-10P tracked the Eighth Brother's ship as en route,[9] which conflicts with the episode's establishment of the Eighth Brother arriving on the planet before the rebels.[2] On April 8, 2016, the official Star Wars Rebels Facebook account erroneously stated that Maul had escaped in Darth Vader's TIE Advanced,[10] contradicting Filoni's comment[5] and the depiction of Maul in a TIE/ad v1 in the episode.[2] In the 2018 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia of Starfighters and Other Vehicles an image caption incorrectly stated that C1-1OP used the TIE to attack Maul,[11] when it was actually the Eighth Brother as depicted in "Twilight of the Apprentice"[2] and the image the caption accompanies.[11] In 2025, a second edition of the book was released, repeating the error.[12]
