Efrain

Efrain was a self-taught droid designer and Jarrod Kelvin's mentor. He was an eccentric old man and mechanical savant who owned his own laboratory where he tested new droid designs. During the Imperial Era, he was betrayed and his plans for a new droid were stolen and given to the Empire. In an effort to flee the empire, Efrain joined a Rebel convoy taking civilians to a hidden rebel world. But after the convoy was attacked, the transport he was on crash-landed onto the planet Tatooine.^[1]

Biography

During the Imperial Era, Efrain created a powerful new prototype based off of the same droid line as J4X-7. Efrian was then betrayed and his life's work was stolen and given to the Empire. With Efrian's plans, the Empire prepared to mass-produce the X-8 blaster droids in a facility on the planet Kuat. Jarrod Kelvin, Efrain's apprentice, was sent on a mission to the facility on Kuat to destroy all Imperial X-8 droids and reacquire Efrian's plans.^[2]

During the Galactic Civil War at some point before 0 BBY^[3], he joined a rebel convoy transporting civilians to a hidden rebel world in an effort to escape the Empire. The Empire ambushed the convoy, and the transport he was on managed to jump to hyperspace and escape the battle. Eventually, the hyperdrive gave out near the planet Tatooine, where the damaged ship crashed. Efrain, along with the other survivors, set up a camp where they stayed before being attacked by Captain Terro and his forces.^[1]

Personality and traits

Efrain was a smart man who taught himself how to build and design droids.^[1] He mentored Jarrod Kelvin in droid design, which allowed Jarrod to build J4X-7.^[2] Efrain was often so engulfed in his work that he wouldn't notice what was going on around him.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Efrain was first mentioned unnamed in the Star Wars: Imperial Assault expansion set Heart of the Empire.^[2] He was first named in the Star Wars: Imperial Assault companion app Legends of the Alliance, in the "Jabba's Realm" campaign. In said campaign, Efrain has a chance of being one of the eight crash survivors present during the first mission, or guaranteed if the player chooses Jarrod Kelvin to be in the squad. Depending upon the actions and success of the player during the missions, Efrain's fate can vary. Efrain can end up being enslaved by Jabba the Hutt, eaten by a rancor, left behind at Terro's camp, or successfully have escaped Tatooine with the squad.^[1]
