- "Similarly, Education was not designed to carry out active teaching but instead to try and bring various schools, colleges, and universities across the galaxy into line with recommended Imperial curriculums and research topics."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Education was a department of the Coalition for Progress, a part of the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order within the Galactic Empire. The department was tasked with ensuring that learning institutions such as schools, colleges, and universities aligned with the Empire's recommended teaching curriculums and research topics. The department had jurisdiction across the galaxy and its role proved a balancing act at times due to academics' tendencies to undertake projects with unclear outcomes and disappear down tangents. The historian Beaumont Kin mentioned the department in[1] his[2] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[1] in 35 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Education was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1] The organization originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
