"Dybbuk."
"Excuse me?"
"It's a parasite used to subdue violent criminals."
―A convict and Osha discuss the dybbuk[1]

The Dybukk Silencer[3] also known as simply the Dybbuk was a fleshy,[2] star-shaped yellow-green parasitic creature used by the Galactic Republic to subdue violent criminals in the High Republic Era.[1] The silencer was a genetically modified from an atmospheric glider native to Dybrin 12 by Chiewab Amalgamated Pharmaceuticals.[3] Measuring 0.25 metres in width, the parasite would affect the user's mind by latching onto another organism's mouth[2] with its adhesive pseupod pad[3] and induce an altered state of consciousness[2] while making a squelching sound,[4] feeding off the host’s neural energy while transmitting euphoric alpha waves. Some subjected to the silencer reported nightmares while under its effects which Chiewab scientists denied.[3]

In 132 BBY,[5] aboard the Republic prisoner transport Palwick heading to the[1] galactic capital[4] Coruscant, the parasite was used to subdue a human convict, Melo Tolicus. During an escape attempt aboard the ship causing the ship to drop out of hyperspace near the snowy[1] planet[4] Carlac, meknek Osha Aniseya used her repair droid Pip to electrocute the parasite latched to the convict. The electric shock caused the dybbuk to release its grip on the convict, freeing[1] him and leaving the dybbuk chittering[4] while escaping the ship into space before the ship entered Carlac's atmosphere and crash-landed.[1]

Behind the scenes

Dybbuk appeared in "Lost / Found," the first episode of the live-action series Star Wars: The Acolyte,[1] which aired on June 4, 2024 on Disney+.[6] The episode was first screened in select theatres in the United States on June 3, 2024.[7] The parasitic creature was designed by artist Tom Blake.[8]
