"The Empire ruined my life and destroyed my family—I wouldn't mind getting a chance to strike back."
―Kyp Durron[2]

A family included the Human Kyp Durron, his brother Zeth Durron, and their mother and father. In 1 ABY,[3] the family was arrested by stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire for the parents anti-Imperial protests. The parents and Kyp were sent to the Spice mines of Kessel, where Kyp's mother and father were killed during a prison revolt[1] in 2 ABY.[4] Kessel[5] Zeth was taken to the Imperial Academy at Carida and indoctrinated into Imperial ideology. Kyp survived for years on Kessel until he was eventually taken offworld by Han Solo and Chewbacca. He sought revenge on the Empire for the death of his family, and while under the influence of the ancient Sith Exar Kun, gained control of the Sun Crusher superweapon, which he took to the Carida system. After Imperials at the Academy told Kyp that Zeth was dead, Kyp fired a resonance torpedo into Carida's sun to destroy the star system. Only afterward, the Imperials revealed that Zeth was still alived, but he perished in the resulting disaster. Kyp was later freed from Kun's influence and joined the New Jedi Order.[1]
