A dune-rat was a type of rat that lived in warrens in deserts.[1]

In 9 BBY,[2] two Narkis Anchorites within the Archive on the moon Jedha discussed Imperial patrols keeping one of the anchorites awake at night. The other anchorite remarked that the Narkis Anchorites were dune-rats to the Empire, hidden and safe.[1]

In 33 ABY,[3] the scavenger Rey engaged in combat with two thugs attempting to take[4] her[5] scavenged materials on the[4] planet[5] Jakku. After she knocked one thug away with her quarterstaff, their accomplice threatened Rey and referred to her as a "dune-rat."[4]

Behind the scenes

Dune-rats were first mentioned in "Better the Devil You Know, Part I," the lead story of the first issue of the 2017 comic series Star Wars Adventures. The story was published by IDW Publishing[4] on December 19, 2018,[6] written by Cavan Scott, and illustrated by Derek Charm.[4]
