A Doroido was a droid used by the Galactic Empire to protect the corridors and rooms of their first Death Star by detaining any detected intruders.[2] They appeared similar in size and shape to an astromech, though with a turret-shaped head, and also moved by rolling with their feet.[1]

Luke Skywalker, just prior to rescuing Princess Leia Organa in 0 BBY, encountered these droids while exploring the Death Star.[1]

Behind the scenes

Doroido appeared in the 1987 Japanese Star Wars game.[1] Their name was revealed in the Japanese language guide of the game serialized in Family Computer Magazine, in which it was rendered as ドロイド (Doroido) in katakana syllabary. However, this is effectively just a transliteration of "Droid."[2]
