- "He'll be safe with me."
- ―Dormé, referring to Captain Typho
Dormé was a Human female from Naboo and one of the most devoted handmaidens of Padmé Amidala during the former Queen's time as the Senatorial representative of the Chommell sector in the Galactic Senate.
Biography
- "It's not me, M'Lady. I worry about you. What if they realize you've left the capital?"
- ―Dormé, to Padmé Amidala
Dormé was a Human female from the planet Naboo[1] and a handmaiden for the Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala. She underwent rigorous training at the hands of Captain Quarsh Panaka and his nephew, Captain Gregar Typho. Dormé accompanied Amidala at all times and occasionally adopted senatorial robes to assume her identity.[3] When Amidala's tenure ended, she still remained loyal to the former Queen.[4]
While on Coruscant with Amidala in the leadup to voting on the Military Creation Act, Dormé noticed the growing affection between the Senator and the Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker as she watched from the sidelines.[1]
When Senator Amidala was forced to flee the Galactic Republic capital with Skywalker and R2-D2, Dormé remained behind, along with Typho, in order to maintain the illusion that Padmé was still on the planet and thus throw off further assassination attempts.[2]
Though fellow handmaidens Cordé and Versé had perished during an earlier attempt on the Senator's life, Dormé was willing to put her duty before her own safety in order to act as a decoy for the former monarch during the last days of peace before the beginning of the Clone Wars.[2]
Personality and traits
Dormé
Being loyal, courageous,[5] and the most devoted of Amidala's aides,[1] Dormé was ready to take the senator's place whenever a decoy was required.[5] The faithful[6] handmaiden was suited to her role as she had become one of the senator's closest friends over the years. Dormé was always ready to listen and offer advice. She ensured Amidala that no matter how bleak a situation looked, that she would always have a withstanding companion.[3] Dormé was also a confidant of Amidala, and the two discussed many things, making her aware of Amidala's emotional state.[7]
Prior to Anakin Skywalker and Amidala leaving Coruscant, Dormé was able to notice their growing affection[1] more than anyone else,[3] as she was watching quietly at all times.[1] At first, Dormé found Skywalker's affection for Amidala amusing, though the handmaiden began to worry when Amidala started to reciprocate.[3] When Dormé helped pack for Amidala's trip to Naboo, the handmaiden giggled after the senator compared Anakin to his younger self.[8] On Amidala's day of departure, Dormé resolved to put on a brave face, but when it was time for her to say goodbye to Amidala, it was too much for her. Dormé started crying for Amidala and what might happen if the assassins knew she had left the capital.[3]
The handmaiden stood at 1.65 meters[1] and had brown eyes, light skin, and brown hair.[2] A lookalike of Amidala,[5] some considered her remarkable for her beauty and her devotion to the senator.[3]
Skills and abilities
Dormé was highly trained as a bodyguard.[1] Like all of Amidala's handmaidens, she underwent rigorous training by Panaka and Typho on Naboo, though the training program had developed somewhat since Amidala's first group of handmaidens had been chosen.[3] The handmaiden had high intelligence, above average diplomacy skills, a slightly above average fighting ability, and average strength and speed. She was not Force-sensitive.[5]
Behind the scenes
- "What really helped me get into the character of Dormé was definitely her costume. It was so regal that it made me walk and behave very differently than a twenty-two-year-old Sydney girl. Her entire role really is to support Amidala, and her safety is Dormé's top priority. That helped give me focus."
- ―Rose Byrne
Dormé was portrayed by Australian actress Rose Byrne in 2002 prequel trilogy flim Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.[2] Though not actually visible in the film, Dormé was scripted to have quietly laughed during Anakin Skywalker's outburst of frustration while Padmé Amidala packed to depart from Coruscant.[1]
