Domina Tagge was a red-haired Human female member of the House of Tagge during the last years of the Galactic Republic. She was the daughter of Sanya, and the younger sister of Cassio, Orman, Silas, and Ulric.
To keep her free from the Empire's corrupting influence, Tagge's brother Orman sent her to live with the Order of the Sacred Circle on Monastery. During the Galactic Civil War, the Sith Lord Darth Vader used Tagge to lure the Rebel hero Luke Skywalker into a trap set up on Monastery. After Skywalker killed Orman Tagge in a duel, Tagge swore revenge against the young Jedi.
Biography
Early live
Domina Tagge was born as the fifth child of Sanya Tagge and was two years old when her parents died.[1] When the Galactic Empire rose to power, many of her siblings pursued careers in either the Imperial Military or the Tagge Company.[6]
When her older brother Silas suggested that Domina marry into an Imperial family, her oldest sibling Orman lashed out at him before sending his[6] seven-year-old[1] sister to live with the Order of the Sacred Circle on Monastery, vowing to keep her free from the Empire's corrupting influence.[6] As a member of the Order of the Sacred Circle, Tagge took to wearing the Order's traditional yellow gown and eventually rose to become their leader.[2]
Trap on Monastery
In 0 ABY, Tagge was informed that her brothers Orman had been killed by Luke Skywalker, although in truth her brother was being kept alive in hibernation. Using this information, the Sith Lord Darth Vader convinced Tagge to set up a trap for Skywalker on the planet Monastery, which the vengeful Tagge agreed to.[2][6]
Staging an attack from Imperial forces, a ship carrying Tagge and other members of the Order of the Sacred Circle was rescued and brought to the Rebel base on Yavin 4. After praising Skywalker's skills in the rescue of her ship, Tagge asked for the Alliance to send an envoy to Monastery so that the Alliance could plead its case for the Order of the Sacred Circle to join them over the Empire. Upon learning that Darth Vader would be present, Skywalker volunteered to be sent as the Alliance's envoy, to which General Jan Dodonna agreed.[2]
Upon arriving at Monastery, Tagge and Skywalker were attacked by a nightshrike, which Skywalker struck down with his lightsaber. Darth Vader then made his presence known to the pair, making a show of welcoming Tagge back to Monastery and implying that the Empire would make a better presentation for the Order of the Sacred Circle than the Alliance. When Skywalker expressed his doubts in being able to successfully perform the mission for the Alliance, Tagge assuaged his concerns by flirting with him.[2]
Tagge then brought Skywalker to the Temple of the Sacred Circle and assigned him to his quarters, informing him that he would present himself to the High Elders the following day. Tagge then met with Vader, who had been the one to have incited the Nightshrike attack in order to impress the more superstitious members of the Order. Tagge then expressed her concern that Skywalker's skills in the Force would make him a powerful foe, but Vader assured her that Skywalker's feelings for her would confuse his thoughts and abilities.[2]
The following day, Tagge staged another animal attack as she had with the nightshrike, this time tricking Skywalker into killing a saber cat that appeared to attack her as she was meditated in a glade. Tagge later visited Skywalker in his quarters to bring him to the High Elders. Once there, Tagge revealed to Skywalker that the High Elders had revoked their authority to name her All-High Priestess, with her first act being to side with the Empire and work with them to destroy the Rebel Alliance.[6]
Skywalker, having recently learned from Princess Leia Organa that the mission to Monastery had been a trap set up by the Empire, moved to clash lightsabers with Darth Vader but the two were stopped by Tagge, who said that the duel would be held in the Crystal Valley at sundown.[6] Tagge deliberately chose this location in the hopes that both Skywalker and Vader would be killed in the Crystal Valley, avenging her brother Orman by eliminating both of his enemies.[5]
During the duel, Orman Tagge—having escaped from hibernation and stowed away on the Millennium Falcon as its crew came to Skywalker's aid—returned to Monastery and moved to rescue his sister from what he perceived to be danger. Vader then used an illusion to trick Skywalker into killing Orman. When Skywalker returned from the Crystal Valley after Vader had fled, Tagge—having just been informed of her brother's survival by Princess Organa—once again vowed revenge against Skywalker. She was then forced to step down as All-High Priestess, having lost Vader's influence,[5] as well as leave the Order of the Sacred Circle altogether.[1]
Baroness Tagge
After being forced to leave the Order of the Sacred Circle, Tagge took over Tagge Company and assumed the title of baroness. For the next several years, Tagge sought revenge against both Skywalker and Vader, posing a threat to both the Alliance and the Empire. Her fixation on Vader ultimately undermined TaggeCo's in its coordinates with the Empire.[1]
The Crimson Forever
In her later plans to destroy Skywalker, Domina fell prey to her own plotting and her men betrayed her for Imperial bounties.
Domina clashed with Leia Organa Solo and Lando Calrissian during the time when they were seeking a cure for the Crimson Forever disease that had infected Luke Skywalker. Leia recognized Domina on sight, and it was clear there was a long-standing mutual dislike between them. Leia and Lando trapped Domina on her ship with a group of bounty hunters she had hired, Bossk, IG-88, Dengar, and Zuckuss leaving them unable to leave the compartment they were in without being exposed to the virus themselves.[7]
Eventually, Domina used the droid IG-88 to neutralize the disease, since he was mechanical and thus immune, and Skywalker was cured. Domina was granted safe passage, although Calrissian suggested to the bounty hunters that they might claim a bounty on Domina herself.[7]
Following the formation of the New Republic, Tagge organized a mission to retrieve the Great Life Jewels.[8]
At an unspecified point in time, Tagge vanished under mysterious circumstances while inspecting a laboratory that was developing biological weapons.[1]
Behind the scenes
Domina Tagge was created by Archie Goodwin and Carmine Infantino.
A Baroness Tagge was introduced in the 1993 West End Games sourcebook Twin Stars of Kira, although it is unclear if this Baroness Tagge was Domina.[9]
