"This stuff for D'Vails?"
―Lan Crish, to the heroes of Cularin upon their arrival in docking bay 1138[1]

Docking bay 1138 was a docking bay in the city Taggon on the planet Druckenwell that saw operation during the last years of the Galactic Republic. Around 21 BBY, a group of freelance agents from the Cularin system landed a starship in the docking bay that was laden with a cargo of explosives. The operatives were then confronted in the bay by members of the Brotherhood pirate group who sought to steal the munitions.

Description

Docking bay 1138 was a landing bay located in the city Taggon on the southern continent of the planet Druckenwell, situated near to the coastline of a crystal blue-colored sea. It consisted of a private, walled bay that could be used by starships as a place to land, load and drop off cargo. It was kept in a clean condition and a repulsor skiff was retained in the bay for transporting goods to and from starships that docked there.[1]

History

The docking bay was operated on Druckenwell during the latter years of the Galactic Republic.[1] Around 21 BBY,[2] the heroes of Cularin, a group of freelance agents from the Cularin system, landed in the bay onboard a starship laden with a cargo of Naescorcom-made explosives. The agents had been hired by the shipping company Renna's Transport Service to deliver the weapons to Amir D'Vail of the merchant group House D'Vails, however the pirate group the Brotherhood sought to steal the weapons for their own purposes. As the freelance operatives exited their ship, a group of the pirates led by the Human Lan Crish approached, posing as employees of a delivery company hired House D'Vails, and attempted to deceive the freelance agents into handing over the explosives.[1]

The operatives refused to handover their cargo and a fight in the docking bay between the freelance agents and the pirates ensued. The confrontation was broken up by the arrival of the Corporate Reaction Force, Druckenwell's law enforcement agency, and the pirates were prevented from seizing the munitions. The agents then called up House D'Vails and Amir D'Vail accompanied a group of his employees to the docking bay to thank the operatives and take custody of the shipment.[1]

A short time afterward, the freelance operatives departed docking bay 1138 in their starship and returned to the Cularin system.[1]

Behind the scenes

Docking bay 1138 appeared in Looking In: Outward Bound by Morrie Mullins and Lee Pickler, a 2002 roleplaying adventure that formed part of the Looking In trilogy of RPGA's Living Force campaign. The adventure suggests that the bay should be portrayed in the role-play as having a similar appearance to Docking Bay 94,[1] a docking bay on the planet Tatooine that appears in the movie Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[3] The docking bay's number, 1138, is term that appears in various Star Wars works as a reference to the film 1971 film THX 1138 by Star Wars creator George Lucas.[4]

In Outward Bound, the players role-play as the heroes of Cularin and their encounter with the Brotherhood pirates in docking bay 1138 can be resolved in various different ways. The player characters can handover the explosives to the Brotherhood or otherwise they can resist the pirates and a fight can break out in the docking bay. The confrontation is resolved with either the player characters or the pirates being defeated and if the fight drags out for a prolonged period of time, the Corporate Reaction Force arrive and break up the struggle.[1]
