The diplomatic corps was a branch of the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. When Luke Skywalker was sat in a BTL Y-wing starfighter after being assigned a mission to recover Imperial communication logs, he noted that the two-seat configuration in the Y-wing suggested someone from the Alliance was going with him. Skywalker hoped it wouldn't be a member of the diplomatic corps who'd spend the journey practising speeches and getting spacesick, before finding out his companion was C-3PO.[1]
