- "He [Caern Adan] had people looking into Quell's background, and they stumbled on to Keize. Apparently he left Shadow Wing after Nacronis, around the same time Quell did. They traced him to a mud heap of a world called Vernid, I think. He'd changed his name, took up work on a dig-rig… we never figured out what he was up to."
- ―New Republic Captain Nath Tensent, in a meeting with General Hera Syndulla and members of Alphabet Squadron
Dig-rigs were digging machinery used in the Outer Rim planet Vernid's worm farming industry. They were worked by crews including rigsmen, haulers, cranksmen, and light signallers. A number of weeks after the Battle of Endor[2] in 4 ABY,[3] the deserted Imperial Major Soran Keize, going by "Devon Lhent," found work as a dig-rig worker on Vernid, operating the signalling lights, an attempt to find a new life after leaving the Empire. He worked with other crewmembers including hauler Klevin, rigswoman Nanchia, cranksman Vi'i'che, and the boy Tyros. Grahamos was another dig-rig worker during that time.[2]
Behind the scenes
Dig-rigs first appeared in the 2019 novel Alphabet Squadron, the first volume of Alexander Freed's Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy.[2]
