- "Here ya go—krayt milk and tasty dianoga pie."
- ―A bartender
Dianoga pie was the most popular of the dishes made of dianoga meat.[3] The savory pie had a beige crust and was stuffed with a filling,[1] and the Houk species had a particular fondness for it among other meat products.[2] At some point, a field guide for officers of the Galactic Empire noted that Imperial chefs could use dianogas to make a tasty pie, although troops were unlikely to come back for second servings.[4] The pies, when served with krayt milk, were the house special at the Meltdown Café on the moon Nar Shaddaa.[1]
In 10 ABY,[5] the Wookiee Chewbacca visited the café. The bartender there asked him what he wanted to eat, but as he did not understand the Wookiee language, he simply gave a slice of dianoga pie and a cup filled with krayt milk to Chewbacca, noting that the pie would be tasty.[1]
Behind the scenes
Dianoga pie first appeared in the second issue of the Star Wars: Dark Empire II comic-book series, which was written by Tom Veitch, illustrated by Cam Kennedy, and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on January 24, 1995.[6] The 2012 reference guide Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia capitalizes it as "Dianoga pie," which this article assumes is an error as it is the only source to do so.[2]
