Sergeant Detral was an individual who served within the Nihil marauder organization during the High Republic Era.[2] Around 230 BBY,[1] Detral led his squad, which consisted of the member Herwint Tiks, on a mission somewhere in the galaxy. However, the mission was at risk due to faulty managing of the squad by Detral, who was emotional during the time of the operation. Sergeant Detral was killed as a result of his actions, which led the remainder of the group to successfully complete the mission without him, albeit the cost for life of all but Tiks in the squad and a subsequent uprising following the mission.[2]

Later on, Tiks met with General Abediah Viess of the Nihil, who requested his presence to converse about his recent mission. When asked if Tiks was the commanding officer for the squad, Tiks declined and mentioned Detral, describing the actions of the late sergeant that placed the squad in danger. Tiks continued to talk about Detral's demise during the mission and the triumph that occurred following his death. Viess, who comprehended what Tiks explained, then asked for Tiks to join her band of mercenaries for the Nihil after the uprising would be crushed by the organization, with Tiks agreeing to the offer.[2]

Behind the scenes

Sergeant Detral was first mentioned in the fourteenth issue of the 2023 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures. The issue was written by Daniel José Older, illustrated by Harvey Tolibao, and published by Dark Horse Comics as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III[2] on January 29, 2025.[3]

Viess' recruitment into the Nihil was shown in The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 4. The events of that issue begin with the destruction of Starlight Beacon and ends a year later, but before Pra-Tre Veter's execution. Since Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates the destruction of Starlight Beacon and Pra-Tre Veter's execution to 230 BBY, the issue must take place as early as that year. Additionally, Tiks does not hold the title of "the Warden" in the flashback for The High Republic Adventures (2023) 14, a title he holds in The High Republic: Escape from Valo, which take place one year after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, which equates to 229 BBY per Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia. Plus, the flashback for The High Republic Adventures (2023) 14 states it takes place "many years ago" from the events of the comic, which are set in 228 BBY as they take place one year and a few months after the destruction of Starlight Beacon which would equate to that year. As such, it can be deduced that Sergeant Detral was killed sometime around 230 BBY.
