- "Climber. We fought together on Deko Neimoidia."
- ―Climber, to Roan Shryne
Deko Neimoidia was a wealthy Colonies planet that was a purse world of the Neimoidian species. By the time of the Clone Wars, it was the possession of the Trade Federation and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Galactic Republic laid siege to the planet near the end of that conflict, with the Jedi-led offensive eventually resulting in the devastation and capture of the world.
Description
Deko Neimoidia, also referred to simply as Deko, was a terrestrial[2] planet[4] located in the Deko Neimoidia system of the Slice portion of the Colonies.[1] It formed a part of Neimoidian space.[7]
History
Ruination of a purse world
- "A series of strikes led by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker eliminated the remaining Separatist bases on the Neimoidian colonial purse worlds of Cato Neimoidia, Deko Neimoidia, and Koru Neimoidia."
- ―A Galactic Alliance historical document
Clone Marshal Commander Cody encountered a Neimoidian fortress on Deko Neimoidia.
Deko Neimoidia was among the most famous of purse worlds, which were in turn the most prestigious of the hundreds of worlds colonized by the Neimoidian species[4] of the Colonies planet Neimoidia. By the time of the Clone Wars of 22 BBY–19 BBY, both Neimoidia and Deko Neimoidia had become possessions of[1] the Neimoidian-controlled[9] Trade Federation and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[1] Eventually, the Neimoidian Home Defense Legions doubled conscription service and called up all reservists for protection of both Neimoidia and the purse worlds, including Deko Neimoidia—a fact that was noted in a 14:10:05 release of the Confederacy's Shadowfeed news and propaganda program.[7]
Near the end of the Clone Wars, the Galactic Republic moved to eliminate the last remaining Confederacy strongholds in the Core Worlds and the Colonies,[1] carrying out a siege of Deko Neimoidia.[2] The offensive was led by the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker,[8] with Kenobi not visiting any of the fungus farms located on the planet during his time there. During the siege, Republic forces including Clone Marshal Commander Cody also became familiar with the layout of the local Neimoidian fortress. Deko Neimoidia was eventually devastated[2] and captured by the Republic.[5]
The final month
Roan Shryne fought during the siege of Deko Neimoidia.
In 19 BBY,[10] the Republic attempted to capture the Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray, who had traveled to the purse world Cato Neimoidia in order to loot his citadel there. At the time, Kenobi mused that, given the fate of both Deko Neimoidia and its fellow captured purse world Koru Neimoidia as well as the Republic threatening Neimoidia itself, it would have been more rational for Gunray to instead retreat to the Outer Rim Territories similarly to the actions of other Confederacy leaders. During a tactical discussion held between Kenobi, Skywalker, and Cody as part of the operation, Cody recalled the Republic's experiences on Deko Neimoidia when speculating about the layout of Gunray's citadel.[2]
When Captain Climber of the clone commando Ion Team of the Republic's[6] 22nd Air Combat Wing[11] met Jedi General Roan Shryne during a battle on the Outer Rim planet Murkhana[6] no more than a month later,[12] he reminded the Jedi Master that they had served together during the fighting on Deko Neimoidia.[6] The Republic offensive on that purse world was later also noted in the 36 ABY galactic history chronicle by the Historical Council of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.[8]
Inhabitants
- "In response to a decree issued from the Office of the General of the Separatist Army, the Neimoidian Home Defense Legions have doubled conscription service, and called up all reservists for active protection of Neimoidia and the colonial purse-worlds of Deko Neimoidia, Koru Neimoidia and Cato Neimoidia [sic]"
- ―Shadowfeed news report
Although, like all of the Neimoidian purse worlds, Deko Neimoidia was politically subservient to the trade monarch based on Neimoidia, the former world's influence on interstellar commerce eventually eclipsed that of the latter.[1] Deko Neimoidia itself was also developed to the point where it became[13] extremely wealthy[5] and a more hospitable and desirable destination than Neimoidia.[13]
Locations
- "Assuming that Gunray's fortress is similar to what we found on Deko and Koru, the underground levels will contain fungus farms and processing and shipment areas."
- ―Cody
Deko Neimoidia was home to large, lavish settlements and palace-like residences of affluent and powerful Neimoidians.[3] Similarly to Koru Neimoidia, by the time of the Clone Wars Deko Neimoidia also hosted a fortress that featured underground fungus farms and processing and shipment areas as well as Neimoidian grub hatcheries on its mid levels.[2]
Behind the scenes
Deko Neimoidia was first mentioned in "CIS Shadowfeed Dispatch 14:10:05 Edition," an article written by Pablo Hidalgo as an in-universe news report. It was published in the seventy-first issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine[7] on September 26, 2003.[14] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed Deko Neimoidia in grid square N-11.[1]
