Defense Drones, also referred to as Targeting Drones or Healing Droids, were a drone model designed by the rookie Hunter medic, programmer, and tinkerer, Sprocket, for use in the Hunters of the Outer Rim competition hosted on Vespaara. These small hovering drones were developed for a twofold purpose, to both seek out Sprocket's enemies within the Grand Arena and highlight their position, allowing others to see them through obstacles, as well as reinforce allies by projecting an overshield that lessoned the damage dealt by incoming blaster fire. Their healing capacity could alternatively distribute a bacta solution, similar to his Medical Droids. Quick and nimble, these droids would encircle their targets from above to perform their assigned task, and would usually emit a pulsing blue glow that turned red when targeting an opponent.[1] They were nearly identical to the Senate hovercam droid,[2] albeit much smaller.[1]

This droid was designed for the video game Star Wars: Hunters, which was developed by NaturalMotion's BossAlien[1] and initially published by Zynga on November 16, 2021 as a soft launch[3] before the global release on June 4, 2024.[4] They were designed by concept artist Anna Kay,[5] with the final look being inspired by the Senate hovercam droid which first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[2] At one point, Sprocket had separate droids for seeking and defense, though at some point they were combined into this one unit.[5] Other unused concepts for this droid included one that resembled a Hologlide J57 cam droid, and others that looked like the head of a DUM-series pit droid.[2]
