Deer-flies were a type of fly with orange eyes that could be found in the mountains on the planet Naalol.[1] In 4 ABY,[2] deer-flies buzzed around a mountain town on Naalol where valdeer shepherds had lived until it was ruined during fighting in the Galactic Civil War. When New Republic Chancellor Mon Mothma visited the town, she informed her advisor Hostis Ij that she planned to cut the Republic's military presence by ninety percent once the war was over, causing his mouth to fall open in shock as though he was trying to catch a meal of deer-flies.[1]
Behind the scenes
Deer-flies were mentioned in the 2015 novel Aftermath by Chuck Wendig, written as the first installment of Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.[1] Out-of-universe, deer flies are flies of the taxanomic genus Chrysops.[3]
