"I lost R2 in the field."
"Well, R2 units are a dime a dozen. I'm sure you'll find a suitable replacement."
Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi talking about losing R2-D2[1]

The decicred, also known as a dime, was a tenth of a credit.[2] Its value was considered minuscule. During the reign of the Galactic Empire, Palpatine's face was pictured on the obverse of the decicred, while the reverse side showed the Imperial crest.

Children were able to purchase decicred-dreadfuls with these monetary units.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Downfall of a Droid" uses the phrase "a dime a dozen,"[1] and the game Star Wars: Starfighter uses the phrase "stop on a dime."[4] The word root "dime" means literally a tenth, suggesting that a dime is analogous to the previously established "decicred," worth a tenth of a credit.[2]
