A ball of spider silk

Dathomiri spider silk was a type of currency and material used on the planet Dathomir. Silk was taken from the local spiders and could be used to craft a light yet durable texture that was used in most of the clothes worn by the indigenous Witches. Balls of spider silk were also used as a currency for trade amongst the Witches.[1]

Behind the scenes

Dathomiri spider silk appeared in the 2003 MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, developed by Sony Online Entertainment.[1] The use of a natural product as a commodity money amongst the Witches of Dathomir mirrors the real-world system of commodity money developed in early cultures all over the world.
