A data siphon was a device that could be used to steal data from data storage devices in the Chiss Ascendancy.[1] By 19 BBY,[2] the Chiss nicknamed "Pontriss" by Syndic Mitth'ras'safis, core name "Thrass," used a data siphon in an attempt to rob a bistro on the Ascendancy planet Csilla. After the attempted robbery was thwarted by Thrass and his friend Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn," patrollers arrived and logged the data siphon as evidence. The patrollers returned the payments Pontriss had been able to download from the bistro's register using the data siphon to the establishment.[1]

Behind the scenes

A data siphon appeared in the flashbacks of the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
