Daniel Christopher Gilroy (born June 24, 1959) is an American screenwriter and film director.[1] Gilroy wrote three episodes for Star Wars: Andor.

Biography

Dan Gilroy was one of the writers for the Star Wars: Andor television series.[2] In November 2019 in New York,[3] the first writers' room session with Gilroy and fellow writers Tony Gilroy and Beau Willimon[4] lasted five or six days. Dan and Tony had a similar skill set, and they got to work on the heist arc, with which they were familiar due to their previous work.[5] The writers knew they were doing the prison[4] on Narkina 5,[6] though it took the group a couple days to figure out how to make it unique from other prisons.[4] To make the prison the opposite of dark and gritty, they made it brightly lit and antiseptic. The writers decided the prisoners would build things on a factory floor[3] and the floor would be electrified. They realized the guards would need to wear rubber boots. In an early iteration of the story, the prisoners would steal the boots to escape.[4]

Dan Gilroy wrote the episodes "Aldhani,"[2] "The Axe Forgets,"[7] and "The Eye."[8] Dan, Tony, and Willimon brought in Tom Bissell to work as a writer for Season 2. The writers spent about seven days in the writers' room working on the season.[5]
