Tunqstoid protective boot

Tunqstoid protective boots were a type of special boot worn by the Imperial guards in the Narkina 5 prison complex. It protected them from being shocked by the tunqstoid steel in the prison floors and allowed them to activate them against prisoners at any time without concern over their own safety.^[1]

Tunqstoid protective boots were first pictured in the teaser trailer for the Star Wars: Andor television series, which was released on May 26, 2022.^[3] They first appeared in "Narkina 5," the eighth episode of the series,^[1] which aired on October 26, 2022.^[4] After writers Tony Gilroy, Beau Willimon and Dan Gilroy decided that the prison's floor would be electrified, they realized the guards would have to wear rubber boots. In an early iteration of the story, stealing the boots would be key for the prisoners to escape.^[2]
