- "Mon Calamari Royal Guard?"
"I'm sorry?"
"The way you're sitting. It's either that or the Dac Ballet…and you don't look like a ballet dancer." - ―Lourna Dee and Ghal Tarpfen
The Dac Ballet was a ballet company that shared its name with[1] Dac, the aquatic homeworld of two sentient species: the Quarren and Mon Calamari.[2] In 231 BBY,[3] Nihil Tempest Runner Lourna Dee was captured by Republic forces and imprisoned on the Starlight Beacon space station. There, she was interrogated by the station's Head of Security, the Mon Calamari Ghal Tarpfen. By observing Tarpfen's posture, Dee identified her as having once been part of either the Mon Calamari Royal Guard or the Dac Ballet, and expressed doubt that Tarpfen danced ballet.[1] Indeed, Tarpfen had once been a member of the Royal Guard.[4]
Behind the scenes
The Dac Ballet was mentioned in The High Republic: Tempest Runner, a 2021 audio drama written by Cavan Scott and published as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[5] Phase I.[6] The spelling of the ballet's name was later confirmed with the release of the audio drama's script in 2022.[1]
