The DH-17 blaster carbine was a model of blaster carbine, and a heavier version of the DH-17 blaster pistol. It was heavily used during the Galactic Civil War by the Imperial Navy and the Rebel Alliance Navy's marines during shipboard skirmishes. It was known for its versatility, durability, and simplicity.[1]
The DH-17 carbine was capable of penetrating most personal armors, but it couldn't penetrate a ship's hull, which made it ideal for battles onboard starships. It could fire automatically and its parts were easily found on the black market. Rebel marines would often install spread barrels onto the weapon, turning it into a deck sweeper known as the DH-17 short carbine.[1]
Behind the scenes
The DH-17 blaster carbine was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Forged in Battle,[1] a 2016 sourcebook for the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game published by Fantasy Flight Games.[2] The blaster carbine originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony and published by LucasArts,[3] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4]
