Crocodinas were a type of crocodile-like creature with scaley heads that included a pair of eyes and a long, thin snout with a toothy maw.[1] In 0 BBY,[2] Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley spaceport[3] on the planet Tatooine had the head of a crocdina displayed on the wall near its bar.[4]
Behind the scenes
The head of a crocodina first appeared in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.[4] The prop was part of the set filmed on Stage 6 at Elstree Studios on April 13–21, 1976,[5] and was in actuality the taxidermied[6] head of a real-life gharial.[7]
The gharial head prop was first brought to the attention of fans by Pablo Hidalgo and Tom Spina at the "Secrets of the Mos Eisley Cantina" panel at Celebration Anaheim in 2015.[8] The creature was then identified for the first time when[1] Spina's company,[9] Regal Robot, produced a magnet version of the prop in 2024.[1]
