- "These pictures are a week old, smuggled off Thaere by a Bothan sympathizer. They certainly seem to confirm the reports we've been getting these last few weeks of a military coup in the Thaereian system."
- ―Osten Dal'Nay, to members of the Cularin Militia
A military coup on the planet Thaere Privo in the Thaereian system occurred during the Clone Wars.
The coup
During the Clone Wars, the grip of Thaereian military—the armed forces of the Thaereian system—on the Cularin system,[2] a nearby star system that the Thaereians were chartered to defend,[3] weakened amid a conflict between the Thaereian military and the Cularin Militia.[2] Circa 20 BBY,[1] the admirals and generals of the Thaereian military concluded that only through significant collective effort could the people of Thaere regain a dominant position in the Cularin system. To that end, the Thaereian military staged a coup on the Thaereian system planet Thaere Privo to seize control of the Thaereian Government so as to ensure that the military would have priority over all other aspects of Thaereian society.[2]
The coup was completed quickly and involved military speeders and an Armored Assault Tank passing through a built-up area. Rumors of the government overthrow spread off-world and a Bothan Cularin Militia sympathizer smuggled footage of the coup to the Militia's leader, Osten Dal'Nay. One week after the coup, Dal'Nay shared the recording with Cularin Militia members aboard the Militia flagship Cularin 1 over the planet Cularin. The Cularin Militia assessed that the change of government would have a positive short term impact for them since the Thaereian military would be focussed inward in the immediate aftermath.[2] Following the coup, the new military junta on Thaere covertly established ties with the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[4]
Behind the scenes
The coup on Thaere Privo first featured in the 2004 roleplaying adventure Inside-out: Storm's Depths, which was written by Rob Edwards and formed part of the Inside-out trilogy of RPGA's Living Force roleplaying game.[2] It was later referenced in the Living Force adventure Decision: Almas, by Ronald A. Heintz.[4]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 The Living Force Campaign Guide states that the Living Force campaign is set one year after the Invasion of Naboo, an event that is dated to 32 BBY by The New Essential Chronology. As the Living Force adventure Below the Belt: Philology moved the campaign forward ten years to the time of the Clone Wars, and the adventure Night Eyes: Night's Homecoming established that by Year 4 of the campaign over a year had elapsed since the events of Philology, Inside-out: Storm's Depths—including the coup on Thaere Privo—can therefore be dated to around 20 BBY.
