- "The Coruscant Port Authority reports new tax models for the import of organic wares, increasing the tax on some items by up to 15%. This follows a new effort to stifle the oversaturated market."
- ―Dorna Parros, HoloNet News
The Coruscant Port Authority, also written as the Coruscant port authority, was an organization that operated on the Imperial capital, Coruscant. Its responsibilities included logging shipments and in 1 BBY, Senator Bail Organa tried to blame confusion around a missing shipment of UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft on a potential mislogging by the authority in a letter to Imperial Security Bureau Chief Inspector Axvering. In 3 ABY, the Coruscant Port Authority introduced new tax models on the import of organic material to try and stifle an oversaturated market.
Description
The Coruscant Port Authority,[2] also written as Coruscant port authority, was an organization that operated on Coruscant, capital of the Galactic Empire, during the Imperial Era. The authority's duties included taking record of shipments arriving on Coruscant[1] and the implementation of import taxes.[2]
History
- "I also understand that no record exists of the shipment's arrival on Coruscant. Are you certain the confusion doesn't lie with the Coruscant port authority? Perhaps the shipment was merely mislogged."
- ―Senator Bail Organa, in a letter to Chief Investigator Axvering
Senator Bail Organa falsley blamed the Coruscant Port Authority for confusion over a missing shipment of U-wings.
In 1 BBY,[3] a shipment of UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft that departed from Aldraig in the Alderaan sector was stolen by the Alliance to Restore the Republic before they reached their intended destination of Coruscant, resulting in there being no record of their arrival there.[1]
Chief Inspector Axvering of the Imperial Security Bureau investigated the disappearance and sent numerous questions to the Alderaan sector's senator, Bail Organa, regarding the incident. Organa, who had in fact organized the theft as a leading member of the Alliance, responded in a letter to Axvering in which he suggested that the confusion may have been caused by the Coruscant Port Authority mislogging the shipment, resulting in the lack of an arrival record. The letter mentioning the Port Authority was then shared by Organa with fellow rebels Mon Mothma and General Airen Cracken and later stored in the collection of documents known as The Rebel Files.[1]
The Coruscant Port Authority operated on Coruscant.
In a new effort to stifle an oversaturated market[2] in 3 ABY,[4] the Coruscant Port Authority introduced new tax models effecting the import of organic wares. These models increased the tax on some items by up to fifteen percent. After they were announced, these new models were covered by reporter Dorna Parros in a HoloNet News broadcast.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the Coruscant port authority was first mentioned in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, which was authored by Daniel Wallace.[1] The Coruscant Port Authority capitalization was then first used in the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game, Star Wars Outlaws.[2] The Coruscant Port Authority originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it made a voice-only appearance in "The Collector," a comic strip written by Rik Hoskin and published in the magazine Star Wars: The Clone Wars Comic 6.42[5] on January 10, 2013[6]
