- "Supreme Leader, the Corellian Invasion was meticulously planned. I devised tactics to allow us to take the planet with minimal losses. Lightning strikes, perfectly targeted. I acknowledge that your decision to decapitate the enemy's leadership with a single attack was extraordinarily successful. It ended the battle quickly and undoubtedly saved First Order lives and matériel. But it might have gone another way."
- ―Armitage Hux, to Kylo Ren
The conquest of Corellia, also known as the First Order's operation on Corellia, as the Corellian invasion, or as the takeover of Corellia was as an event during the First Order-Resistance War that saw the planet Corellia, home to many shipyards and factories, fall to the First Order. The regime began an occupation that most Corellians quickly accepted.
Prelude
- "I would submit that there might be other targets where our military resources could be better allocated. For instance, we still remain without a suitable shipyard after the losses at Starkiller Base and Crait."
- ―Armitage Hux, to Kylo Ren
Despite the First Order still having many legions[5] and battalions across the galaxy, they still lost many ships following the destruction of Starkiller Base and the Battle of Crait, which cost them the Supremacy and a large portion of their fleet. During Supreme Leader Kylo Ren's personal travels to Mustafar and Tatooine, General Hux began devising a battle plan to conquer Corellia in an attempt to give the First Order a new shipyard.[6][1]
After Ren ordered to invade Naboo as part of his own personal quest to learn where Darth Vader's true power lied, General Hux questioned the Supreme Leader and wondered why didn't they try to invade Correllia instead, but he was only met with a reprimand of his superior. In the middle of one of their battles to fully take over Naboo, Hux was giving orders to fire one of their autocannons to destroy the Naboo forces until him and the rest of the First Order were ordered to withdraw from the fight by Kylo Ren, with the First Order retreating and leaving Naboo free.[4]
The conquest
- "This is Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. All First Order fighters, form up on me, keep the enemy off my flanks. I'm going for the command center."
- ―Kylo Ren, to the First Order
Following their retreat from Naboo, the First Order began their invasion of Corellia using General Hux's battle plan, which consisted of a siege anchored by their strongest units in an attempt to take over the planet with minimal losses. With the General leading the invasion, the First Order used their ships and stormtrooper battalions to overwhelm the Corellian forces. As the Corellian fighters fell, Commander Grayton commented that due to Hux's battle plan they would secure Corellia and its shipyards with negligible casualties on their end. General Hux thanked the Commander but was quick to point out that all of the battle's participants were heroes of the First Order.[1]

Suddenly, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren joined the battle with his TIE silencer and quickly dispatched the Corellian forces out of the sky. The Supreme Leader ordered his fighters to form around him to keep the Corellian forces off his flanks as he headed directly towards the command center headquarters in an attempt to take out the planet's leadership in one strike. Taken by surprise by the Supreme Leader's sudden arrival to take on the most heavily defended spot on the planet, General Hux told Commander Grayton that they should abide by Ren's orders and pray for his safety. Despite being hit during his attack run, the Supreme Leader successfully destroyed the command center headquarters. This decisive attack prompted the Corellian leaders to surrender, with the First Order taking over their shipyards in order to replace the assets lost during previous battles.[1]
Aftermath
- "The invasion was a success on all levels. The planet's leadership surrendered when it became clear they could not continue to resist. We control Corellia's shipyards and factories, and can begin replacing assets lost at Starkiller Base, Crait, Naboo and so on. Small pockets of insurgency remain, but we will stamp them out."
- ―Armitage Hux, to Kylo Ren
Following their first major victory, the First Order celebrated their Supreme Leader for his decisive actions during the invasion.
Immediately following the battle, stormtroopers and officers aboard[1] the First Order flagship[7] Finalizer chanted and celebrated Ren—who sat upon a new throne[1] built of rare materials[8] and designed by Hux on Ren's order—for his efforts during the invasion while Hux stood by his side, something that Ren knew upset Hux. Ren ordered to see Hux in his chambers for an after-action report, but the angered general followed said report by mentioning that he would have preferred to be informed about any actions similar to those the Supreme Leader took during the invasion, as being told would have ensured he did not have to react to surprises from both sides of the conflict. Ren ordered Hux to dismiss himself instead, not wanting to be chastised by his inferior, before departing for the planet Lahtee, looking for a surviving Jedi[1]—the Theelin Grandea[9]—whom his servant, Vaneé, had located after advising Ren to find a real challenge[1] via a worthy opponent.[9]
The takeover of Corellia represented the first major victory of the First Order following their heavy losses on Crait and Naboo. Having successfully taken over the planet's shipyards and factories,[1] the First Order began its occupation of Corellia. While most Corellians were scornful of being subjects to the occupation,[2] which included the creation of some small insurgency groups,[1] most Corellians[2] quickly[10] accepted the new reality.[2] Among the insurgent cells that resisted the occupation[1] was the Collective, a grouping of technology-focused individuals who opposed the expansion of authoritarianism. Resistance agents carried out a mission to Corellia[2] a short time later[10] in order to recover a First Order list of targets being auctioned by the Collective and to steal starships for their cause.[2]
While Ren was busy with his business on Lahtee,[9] the First Order gained complete control over the Corellian facilities in short order. Those shipyards were already ready to produce starfighters for the First Order fleet by the time Hux reported their progress to Ren aboard the Finalizer, although minor issues seen throughout the fabrication plants prevented a possible delay in the construction of capital ships. As Hux informed Ren of the update from Corellia, their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the Knights of Ren, the Supreme Leader's former followers[7] who would submit back to his command.[11]
Behind the scenes
The conquest of Corellia was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the novel Resistance Reborn[2] before being identified as the "takeover of Corellia" in the solicit for Legacy of Vader 6.[12] The issue itself would depict the event and give it several names beyond the "conquest of Corellia" title, dubbing it both the "operation on Corellia" and "Corellian invasion" as well.[1]

- ↑ The events of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader take place after the events of Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. The series also features the Finalizer as the First Order's flagship. As Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy establishes that the Steadfast became the First Order's flagship following the Battle of Batuu, dated to 34 ABY by Timelines, the events of Legacy of Vader must be set in that year.

Furthermore, Legacy of Vader 6 is set after Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. Resistance Reborn says that most Corellians "eventually" accepted the occupation. As there is only a short time between The Last Jedi and Resistance Reborn according to the latter's narrative, with an even shorter time therefore occurring between Legacy of Vader and its events, this "eventually" time frame must have been quick.
