The Commerce Treaty of 1647 was a legal covenant that assured the neutrality of the Trade Federation.

History

"How many times must I remind you of the Commerce Treaty of 1647? The Trade Federation is neutral."

The treaty assured the Federation's neutrality in conflicts and was invoked by Senator Lott Dod during a debate in the Galactic Senate over the Blockade of Pantora. According to the Neimoidian Senator, he had invoked the same document on several occasions in the past, when confronted with rumors that the entire Federation was in league with the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
