- "Both Justice and Commerce were similarly charged with establishing acceptable galactic norms for the economy and legal systems that ensured Imperial superiority in ways that will be discussed in forthcoming chapters."
- ―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire
Commerce was a department of the Coalition for Progress within the Galactic Empire's Commission for the Preservation of the New Order. It was charged with establishing acceptable galactic norms within economic systems that ensured Imperial superiority and had jurisdiction across the galaxy. The department was briefly detailed by the historian Beaumont Kin in[1] his[2] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Commerce was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[1] The department originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the Imperial Sourcebook, a 1989 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Greg Gorden and published by West End Games.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire states that thirty years have passed since the end of the Galactic Civil War and months have passed since the Battle of Exegol. As Star Wars: Timelines dates the end of the war to 5 ABY and the Battle of Exegol to 35 ABY, the in-universe The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire must have been published in 35 ABY.
