A comm station, also known as a comm booth, a communications station, or a comm board, was a communications station for individuals used to send and receive transmissions.
Description
A comm booth was a station where individuals could make transmissions. In at least some cases, these booths were capable of sending transmissions to another planet in real-time.[1] The starship Coruscant Dawn had a comm board that lit up like a Solstice tree.[2]
The holobooth functioned in a similar manner, only featuring an additional hologram for communications,[3] as did communications relays.[4]
History
Though comm booths existed at the Arkanis Academy on Arkanis, their use was strictly regulated by its overseer, Commandant Brendol Hux, who felt that conversation with outsiders was detrimental to a military regimen. As such, he only allowed cadets at the academy a single 15-minute session every month and monitored the transmissions. When Zare Leonis desired something more private, he took the advice of his fellow cadet, Penn Zarang, and visited Jasko's in Scaparus Port. Jasko, a washout cadet, enjoyed irritating Hux by providing comm services that weren't monitored, though his prices were somewhat expensive.[1]
