- "This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We've been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope."
- ―Colin Trevorrow, on directing Star Wars: Episode IX
Colin Trevorrow is an American filmmaker best known for directing the 2015 film Jurassic World and the 2012 film Safety Not Guaranteed.
Trevorrow was originally set to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, the third and final film in the sequel trilogy.[1] His other contribution to the sequel trilogy was suggesting Rian Johnson to include a shot of Poe Dameron and Rey meeting for the first time in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.[2] However, on September 5, 2017, it was announced that Trevorrow had left Episode IX,[3] which he co-written with Derek Connolly and was titled Duel of the Fates,[4] although he retained story credit when the project was re-envisioned as The Rise of Skywalker.[2] The Rise of Skywalker credits Trevorrow as co-writing the story with Connolly, J.J. Abrams (who also directed) and Chris Terrio. He told Empire magazine that he would donate his residuals from the film to the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice in Berkshire. (A representative from the organization described it as "the equivalent of paying for a nurse for a year."[5])
