- "I keyed a Code-16 to redirect their forces. I don't know what happened."
"Clone codes don't work here. You just triggered a security alert!" - ―Tech and Gregor
Code-16 was utilized by the clone troopers of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars[1] with the Separatist Alliance.[2] In 19 BBY,[3] following the war's end and the Republic's reorganization into the Galactic Empire, the Empire worked towards replacing its clone soldiers with recruited bodies and expelling other Republic Military aspects, including the use of Code-16. By the time of Clone Force 99's extraction mission to the planet Daro[1] the same year,[3] when they rescued ex-Imperial clone commando Gregor, all Republic-related codes had been abolished. Commando Tech discovered this when[1] he[4] attempted to issue a Code-16 from a terminal and stage a diversion, but instead triggered a security alert across the Imperial facility and brought TK stormtroopers to them.[1]
Behind the scenes
Code-16 was introduced via mention in "War-Mantle,"[1] the fourteenth episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season one, which aired on July 30, 2021.[5]
