- "Heard you broke the record doing the Sevari Sidestep. Got out with a cargo hold full of carsunum spice."
- ―Bolabo Hujaan, to Dash Rendar
Carsunum,[2] also known as black spice,[3] was a rare and highly illegal spice variant mined on Sevarcos II. It was hard to find, usually located deep within mines under layers of solid rock.[2][4]
Controversial legends said that carsunum aided in meditation, granting insight, as well as improved health and longevity. In reality, use of carsunum granted a temporary boost of both mental and physical abilities as well as a pleasurable sense of well-being; however, once the spice hit ended, the user lost their mood and energy, and sometimes ended up poisoned, even with fatal results.[4]
The mysterious Healer's Guild used a forgotten recipe of carsunum (sometimes mixed with ryll) to control and prevent the proliferation of hive viruses like the one that infected the crew of the Katana fleet.[2][4]
Because of its dangerous effects, carsunum was illegal, and also rare. A dose of 10 grams costed a thousand Imperial Credits in the black market.[4]
