The Calonica system was situated in the Vensensor sector[1] of the Western Reaches portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1] It lay on the super-hyperroute known as the Corellian Trade Spine, which linked it to the Tar Morden system[2] and the Mid Rim's Bomis Koori system.[4] The Calonica system contained the terrestrial celestial body of the same name. The latter was the site of a Galactic Empire capital.[3]
At one point by the time shortly after the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel Alliance stole the explosive charges from the majority of the mines buried around the Imperial capital on Calonica.[3] Also during the Galactic Civil War, at some point between 2 BBY and 4 ABY, the Alliance prevailed over the Empire in a battle in the Calonica system.[2]
Behind the scenes
The Calonica system was first mentioned in "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article published in the thirteenth issue of the Voyages SF magazine. That article placed the system in the Tau Sekar sector. Since the article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity was never confirmed.[5] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas subsequently placed the Calonica system in grid square K-16,[2] and the StarWars.com Online Companion to the book later overrode the Voyages SF 13 placement by establishing that it was situated in the Vensensor sector instead.[1]
