- " 'Use the comlink'? Oh, my! I forgot. I turned it off."
- ―C-3PO
The C1 personal comlink was a portable communications device produced by SoroSuub Corporation in operation during the Galactic Civil War. These comlinks were standard-issue for the stormtroopers of the Galactic Empire.
Description
Comlink used by C-3PO on the Death Star
The C1 personal comlink was manufactured by SoroSuub Corporation. It was a small, cylindrical device with a mic grill on the top, an on/off switch fixed to the side. A scrambler, transmitter and Frequency Code Sequencer were mounted on the device's interior. A Variable Frequency Programming Chip was located on the bottom of the comlink.[1]
It was a basic model,[2] but was military-grade that featured a limited encryption module that was intended to stop eavesdroppers from listening in on messages.[1] The C1 featured sophisticated encryption algorithms, allowing the comlink to transmit and receive secure transmissions. Within close range of an Imperial base, comlink signals were automatically boosted for optimum performance.[4]
An audio-only system, it could also be mounted in a helmet.[2] It supplemented a stormtrooper's helmet communications system with improved range and security.[4] The comlink had a range of fifty kilometers which could reach low orbit.[2]
History
The C1 was used extensively by the Imperial Military, being issued to Imperial Army and Imperial Navy troops.[1]
